Pastor for Students and Adult Discipleship
Job Description
January 2017

Reports to: Lead Pastor

Hours: Full-time

To provide vision, leadership, and day-to-day supervision of the middle and high school Student Ministry. The secondary purpose is to provide vision and leadership to the adult discipleship ministry including developing a strategy for college age adults and local adult small groups.


  • Has a love for Christ and is a mature follower of Christ who is growing in grace
  • Has experience leading middle and high school students
  • Has experience organizing adult small groups
  • Ability to develop leaders
  • Ability to manage people, projects and events
  • Has demonstrated the ability to think strategically and is able to anticipate and lead through change
  • Is able to be both a team builder and a team player
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Engages in ongoing growth opportunities, including reading, networking, and attending seminars/conferences


Student Ministry (Currently around 25 middle and high school students)

  • Work with the Children’s Pastor to develop and implement a comprehensive family ministry plan for ages Birth through College
  • Provide strategic leadership for student ministries
  • Build a strong, cohesive leadership team that is united around a common student ministry strategy
  • Develop a strong partnership with parents
  • Develop an annual calendar of student ministry actives and trips
  • Prepare an annual budget for student ministries
  • Ensure all logistical needs are provided for, for all activities, events and trips
  • Work with Children’s Pastor to ensure background checks are up to date for all adult student ministry volunteers
  • Assist in pastoral care for families and individuals as needed


  • Provide leadership in developing a strategy to develop next generation leadership
  • Develop leadership for college age ministry
  • Provide strategic leadership for adult small groups (currently 6-8 semester groups) and discipleship in general
  • Develop leaders for adult small groups
  • Work with staff and other leaders to establish small group curriculum needs and find appropriate resources

Pastoral Care

  • Share with other pastoral staff the pastoral needs of the congregation
  • Possibly preach on occasion if gifts match the need.
