We have an immediate serving opportunity that I want to make you aware of. Each year our church works with a local hypothermia response program in coordination with other churches, the Fairfax County Government and a local organization called FACETS.
The program enlists churches to host weeklong hypothermia shelters on their campuses starting in November and running through April 1. Each church host for one week and most weeks have two churches serving to meet the needs. During their week, host churches provide floor space for sleeping, dinner, breakfast and a to-go lunch. This year our church will be serving the week of February 16-22.
The need we have is for a Point of Contact (POC.) The POC’s responsibilities are to attend planning meetings, review email updates and keep our Hypothermia Response Team updated on how the season is going and any changes we need to be made aware of.
The next POC meet is November 7. That will probably be the last in-person meeting, since the program will also be starting around that time. Regular update emails will continue to go out to the POC throughout the season.
If you are interested in serving in this role or would like to find out more about it, please reply to this email.
See you Sunday.
