Since we’re launching our Hypothermia Response Ministry this Sunday I wanted to spotlight one of our local partners, FACETS. We’ve partnered with FACETS for several years in a number of ways.
FACETS provides a lot of services to people in Fairfax County who find themselves without or on the verge of being without housing. Along with helping individuals and families find affordable housing, they provide support to kids through tutoring programs, they help people find jobs, they provide counseling support and education assistance, and so much more.
Several years ago, after two homeless men died due to exposure to the cold, a few churches in the area decided to create hypothermia shelters in the winter months to ensure it never happened again. Immediately both the needs and the issues that arise with running a shelter overwhelmed the churches.
The following year FACETS, with some financial support from Fairfax County, began working with those churches and out of that grew today’s Hypothermia Ministry. As you serve this week, you will be serving along side of some of the regular staff and seasonal staff from FACETS. Please make sure you thank them for the work they are doing for some of the most vulnerable in our community.
See you Sunday.
