What’s happening now?
Packing Party Success!
Our packing party was a huge success – we packed 2,098 boxes! Thank you so much to all who volunteered their time and talents in the weeks leading up to and during the packing party.
Red & green shoeboxes
Now that our packing party is over, we still encourage everyone to pack shoeboxes at home. Traditional, red and green, “GO” (Gospel Opportunity) boxes are available at church. You are also welcome to use any shoebox or similarly sized box that you already have to pack your goodies. See our suggested items list for packing ideas. When you’re done packing, don’t forget to pray for the child who will receive the box you packed. Then, drop it off at our church during National Collection Week, November 13-20, 2017.
FCBC Drop-Off Center
During National Collection Week, Fairfax Circle Church serves as a drop-off center for the shoeboxes. That means that people from all around us, including folks from other churches, are invited to drop off their shoeboxes with us so that we can ship them along to the processing center in Baltimore. We are open the entire week of November 13-20 and welcome both drop-offs and volunteers. Check back in a few weeks for specific drop off center hours and to sign up to volunteer.
Introduction to Operation Christmas Child: What’s so special about a shoebox?
Since 1993, more than 146 million boys and girls in over 160 countries and territories have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child (OCC). Fairfax Circle Church has been packing shoeboxes for OCC since 2001.
Their shoebox is the first gift many children have ever received! The treasures and personal letters inside communicate that someone cares for them. It gives them an opportunity to experience the love of God.
Be sure to watch a video to see the impact this simple gift has on children and communities! You will be amazed and inspired.
As shoebox gifts are distributed, local pastors or church leaders present the Gospel in a fun way designed for kids while family and friends listen in. Afterwards, boys and girls are invited to enroll in The Greatest Journey, a 12-lesson discipleship program. They learn from trained local volunteers what it means to faithfully follow Christ and share their faith with others. The graduates also receive a New Testament Bible in their own language.

Processing Center Trips
Want to take it a step farther and follow our boxes along their journey? The Operation Christmas Child relies on volunteers to process the boxes at the center in Baltimore. Every year, we travel there to lend an extra hand in getting the shoeboxes into the hands of the children. We send an adult/family group and have a trip just for our youth. This year, the youth trip will be November 24-25, more details to come. Please check back for the date and details for the adult/family trip.
