I want to give you an update on the solar project that we’ve been working on for the Tania Centre along with several Canadian churches. The Tania Centre is a school in Kenya that we have a ministry partnership with; it’s a residential school for children with special needs. You can read more about the Tania Centre here.
Back in November we had a special financial initiative called the Tania Project with the goal of raising $50,000 for Tania. Half of those funds would be used to help equip Tania with a solar energy system and the other half would be used to help meet some of their staffing needs. You can read more details here.
The campaign was a great success with us surpassing our goal. We’ve since collected the funds and a few weeks ago work began on the installation of the solar energy system. We’ve confirmed that the project is complete, and Tania is now operating primarily off of solar power.
Joseph and Jennifer (Founders and Directors of Tania) have expressed their sincere gratitude for our church’s generosity in helping to make this happen. I also want to thank everyone who participated in this project for your generosity.
Electricity is extremely expensive in Kenya and can be unreliable at times. When they are without power on campus at Tania they are also without water. This system will not only give them stable power but will allow them to direct their funds toward other needs like staff, food, updating and maintaining the campus and so much more.
We will have a small team visit Tania in November to continue building our partnership and assessing how the rest of the funds we’ve collected should be used.
So thanks again for all you did to make this happen and for investing in the lives of the children of Tania.
The new solar panels are doing double duty here – it turned out this was a great place for bleacher so now the kids have reliable water and electricity and a shady spot to watch sports!
