I want to share with you this week about a great opportunity our church has over the next few months.
As many of you know, our Student and Discipleship Pastor, Lex, has been working on an outreach to local college students. This week he has been on the campus of Northern Virginia Community College meeting students, handing out small gifts and inviting them to a follow up event that we’re hosting in a couple of weeks.
On the first day at NOVA, Lex was able to connect, in one way or another, with close to 300 students and had some significant conversations with close to 100 of them! Next week he will be on the George Mason University Campus doing the same thing.
I want to ask you to do a couple of things as we continue to reach out to support, encourage and connect with local college students.
First, pray. Pray for the students as they start a new semester. Also, pray for Lex and other leaders as they make connections with them and begin to build relationships and create a presence on campus. Campus ministry is difficult and requires a lot of work and patience but the potential rewards are great.
Second, be prepared to welcome students if they choose to attend on Sunday mornings. Introduce yourself, make it a point to sit next to them and offer to take them to lunch afterwards. I believe this is a great opportunity for us to help make a difference in the lives of the next generation and I hope you will be a part of that.
See you Sunday.
