Grief share

A GriefShare support group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. Through the group, you’ll discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat, orderly stages of grief, you’ll learn helpful ways of coping with grief, in all its unpredictability—and gain solid support each step of the way.

What is Grief Share?

If you’ve have lost someone in your past a GriefShare support group may be something you want to consider.  Groups meet for 13 weeks, and we offer them two times a year, in the spring and fall. Currently our GriefShare groups are meeting online through Zoom.

Sunday, August 20 we will be starting a new GriefShare group. Whether you’ve attended a GriefShare before or not we invite you to join us if this is something that would be helpful to you.

About Grief Share

Each week there is a 30-minute video featuring respected experts on grief-related topics and helpful stories from people who have experienced loss. Their insights will help you manage your emotions, gain clarity, and find answers to your questions as you walk through the grief process.  Participants are encouraged to view the videos on their own prior to the group meeting.

During the meeting the group will spend time discussing what was presented in that week’s video and what is going on in your lives. Talking with other people who understand what you’re experiencing brings great comfort, normalizes the grief experience, and offers a supportive environment to work through your grief.

There is also a participant guide which serves as a road map on your grief journey. This book helps you process your emotions and experiences and cope with the loss. You’ll apply what you’ve heard in the group and gain tools to deal with complicated grief.

Participants are encouraged to attend as many of the 13-week group meetings as possible but are not required to attend them all. Each week offers stand-alone content so participates can participate at their own pace.

Grief Share: Surviving the Holidays

With the holiday season in the future, you may be facing some tough emotions. This might be the first holiday after your loved one's death, or maybe it's the second, third or beyond. With the focus on family, yearly traditions, expectations, social events, and "cheer" the emotions can blindside you. This one day study, video and discussion can help lessen the emotional impact by knowing what to expect and being prepared.

We will be providing a light lunch and playing the video in person (and livestreamed) at church after our church service at 12:00pm on Sunday, November 12th.

We hope you can join us by clicking on this link to register and receive your own Surviving the Holidays booklet for $10.

If you aren’t comfortable signing up online, please contact Ellie Bechtle at ebechtle@veritycomercial.com to let her know you’d like to order a book.

She has some on hand for the event and is available for any questions.

While your GriefShare group helps people move forward on their healing journey, the holidays can cause setbacks. At this stand-alone event, grieving people will hear practical suggestions on:

  • How to prepare for and deal with emotional ambushes
  • What to do about family traditions and yearly events
  • How to handle invites and uncomfortable moments at social events
  • And more
